The Black Neon Tetra is a striking and hardy community fish that makes an excellent choice for planted aquariums. Its bold black body is beautifully accented by a bright horizontal cream/white stripe and a splash of orange above the eye, creating an elegant contrast that stands out in any tank.

Known for its peaceful nature and durability, this species is perfect for both beginners and experienced aquarists. Black Neon Tetras thrive in schools of six or more, swimming actively in the upper and middle levels of the aquarium, though they may occasionally explore lower areas while feeding.

They are safe with other small, peaceful fish and larger non-aggressive invertebrates. Adult dwarf shrimp are typically safe, though fry and very small shrimp may be eaten. Being tank-raised, Black Neons are highly adaptable, but they show their best colors in aquariums that mimic their natural South American habitat with soft, slightly acidic, tannin-rich water.
